Clickbank is Introducing New Marketplace Rating

In January 2013, Clickbank will implement a new marketplace rating system for vendor accounts. The one-to-five star rating will be based on the account’s refund and chargeback history.

In theory, better quality product will get higher rating, but in practice, this will not always be the case.

For example, to increase conversion some vendors put real emphasis on your money back guarantee. This leads to more sells, but it also increases the number of refunds. Consequently, it will lower the marketplace rating of the account.

It can also have a negative impact on customer experience. Customers don’t always know to go to Clickbank directly, and they ask the vendor for a refund. The new system discourages vendors from giving prompt refunds.

Is Clickbank trying to increase the quality of the product in their marketplace with, or maybe lower the number of refunds, or both? Whatever the reason, I think it will do more harm then good.

Affiliates are smart and they will soon realize that the new marketplace rating is not a measure of product quality at all, but merely a chargeback and refund rating.
